The protection circuit contains a decoupling diode (4) between its input (E) and its output (A). A filter capacitor (2) is connected between the output (A) and an earthed connection of an operating voltage source. A first resistor (3) is connected between the output (A) and the other connection of the operating voltage source. According to the invention, a transistor (4) is provided whose emitter is connected to the output (A), whose collector is connected to the second operating voltage connection and whose base is connected via a second resistor (5) to the input (E). The protection circuit can be used in carrier frequency systems in which rapid charging of the filter capacitor is required when the operating voltage is switched on or when a standby carrier supply is connected in parallel to form an operating carrier supply, in order to shorten the time period of bias voltage deviations at the modulators.
