Self-tipping waggons have the disadvantage predominantly when used in central and northern Europe that the side flaps freeze up while covering long transportation distances during the cold time of the year so that the self-tipping process is greatly impeded and delayed in the destination station by these frozen-up flaps. The proposed device avoids this by means of an electrical resistance heater arranged in the contact zone between the self-tipping waggon and the flaps and a power supply by means of axial generators or by means of current supply from the railway network through the electric locomotive. A thermostatically controlled switching device is advantageously provided for the power supply for maintaining a heating state above the freezing point. However, a power supply which is controlled by a timer can also be installed in order to re-establish a heating state above the freezing point.
