A method for the kinetic determination of magnesium in body fluids is claimed; this entails adding to the body fluid one or more ATP-converting enzymes, for example ATP phosphohydrolases or ATP phosphotransferases, and determining the magnesium concentration in a manner known per se from the activity of these enzymes via a calibration plot.
