A method of producing the tube nest of heat exchangers or the like is disclosed, with tubes welded in place between two tube plates, in which method the tubes, with circular welds deposited from outside, are gradually welded individually without a gap to the tube plates containing corresponding openings. First of all each individual tube is welded with its inlet end to the inside of the head plate and then with its outlet end to the inside of the base plate, in the course of which the outer weld deposited first can be strengthened in the area of the base plate by a back weld deposited from the inside. After a tube has been welded in this way with both ends to the head plate and the base plate, the other tubes are welded on in the same way until all tubes of the heat-exchanger insert are welded in place between the head plate and the base plate.
