Described as an exemplary embodiment is, inter alia, the use of the expanding filling materials for bridge construction. The hollow space of the structural members is subdivided by transverse walls into individual chambers. The chamber walls are alternately arranged at oppositely directed prestressing spindles in such a way that the poured-in, expanding prestressing material presses towards the free spindle end. In this way, the spindles, running in opposite directions, are tensioned in opposite directions. Prestressing arches can also be arranged, the ends of the arches being welded to that spindle whose free end points in the same direction as the welded-on end of the prestressing arch. Additionally, prestressing devices are arranged at least for the free spindle ends resting in the abutments. By prestressing tubes concentrically combined with one another, the expansion force of each filling space can be added without limit to that of the filling space situated to the inside and thus a central spindle can be prestressed up to the breaking limit (see Fig. 14). In addition, the invention permits further highly significant applications. This also applies in general to buildings, construction machines, cranes, turbines, ships, aircraft and other constructions as well as for the driving of machines.
