In a method of producing an item of jewellery from a round bar made of precious metal, in particular of platinum, the object of the invention is to achieve novel and unique surface structures which correspondingly result in novel jewellery effects. This is achieved in that the round bar is twisted continuously in sections in each case through a particular angle and is subsequently subjected to intermediate annealing. In this method, a particularly unique and attractive item of jewellery results when a round bar as starting material consisting of platinum is twisted in such a way that the surface of the twisted round bar consisting of platinum has a structure of brocade-type or velvet-type appearance.
