In order to produce the upper part, formed from three pipe sections centrally welded to one another, of pipes, mounted in an axially freely movable fashion in a reactor pressure vessel, for fuel elements, control rods or the supply of boron, one end of a mounted sleeve pipe and of a connecting pipe connected to a lower pipe part are respectively constructed as relatively thin-walled encompassed centring points before being united by an intermediate pipe by machining, and the two ends of the relatively thin-walled intermediate pipe, which corresponds in diameter to the finished upper part, are constructed by machining as centring points for a press fit which encompass those first mentioned.
