The invention relates to a gas turbine power station having a closed gas circuit and a pebble bed nuclear reactor as heat source. The nuclear reactor and the components of the primary circuit (gas turbo-generator, recuperators, precoolers, intercoolers), in common with the auxiliary circuit, which comprises a plurality of auxiliary cooling systems, are accommodated in recesses on a prestressed concrete pressure vessel. In order to protect the reactor internals, such as the thermal shield, the cavity liners, the absorber rods and the hot-gas and warm-gas lines, against impermissible thermal loads both during normal operation and during operation for afterheat removal, the cold gas emerging from the high-pressure compressor is subdivided on its path to the recuperators into a number of main flows and secondary flows, the secondary flows being guided along the components to be cooled. No flow reversal takes place on the high-pressure side of the recuperators during operation for afterheat removal.
