What is proposed is the introduction of bar stock into the compartments of honeycomb shelves by means of a shelf conveyor, on the lift-over platform (15) of which is provided a push-in carriage (1) which is open on the end faces and of which the bottom and side walls are formed by roller tables (2, 3) directly engaging under or surrounding the storage stock and on the end faces of which are provided positively guided (11) slides (9) which can be transferred from above into the path of movement of the push-in carriage (1), so as to cover the useful cross-section of the push-in carriage (1), and which, after the push-in carriage (1) has been transferred into a shelf compartment (8/14), lowered to the level of the push-in carriage (1), engage behind the storage stock located in the push-in carriage (1), so that the push-in carriage (1) can be returned onto the platform (15) of the shelf conveyor, leaving the storage stock in the shelf compartment (8/14).
