The invention relates to a method for rotation-speed control, rotation-direction reversal, starting operation, motor operation and braking operation of two-phase AC motors on a single-phase network. The aim of the invention is to make this possible at a low cost. The object of the invention in this case is to find such a method using which the rotation-speed control, rotation-direction reversal, starting operation, motor operation and braking operation can be implemented by means of only one circuit arrangement. In the case of a two-phase AC motor which is operated from a single-phase network and has an on/off switch located in at least one phase of the motor, this object is achieved by the on/off switch switching the voltage which is supplied to the phase on and off in each half cycle such that a virtually constant voltage/time area is produced and the times of the phase being switched on and off are shifted over the range of one half cycle.
