A method of automatic prefabrication of wall panels (2) made of building blocks or the like of perpendicular design, whereby building blocks are aligned on a horizontal conveyor, assembled with or without head joints to form wall layers (1, 7) furnished with a bed joint mortar layer (8) and carried to a wall panel making device (4) onto a raisable and lowerable transporter (3), whereby the transporter is raised up to a clamping device (5, 6) together with the wall layer and where the wall layer is heldfirmly at the side, where-after the transporter is lowered and the next respective wall layer (7) is positioned and raised against the underside of the clamped wall layer and, after opening of the clamping device, is lifted further together with the upper wall layer up to the clamping position, and whereby finally, after the wall panel has been constructed to the desired height, it is removed from the wall panel making device, whereby the first respective wall layer (1) of a wall panel is not being furnished with a bed joint mortar layer : wherein panel making is carried out in a continuous manner without interruption, the wall panels produced being lifted off from the wall panel making device by means of a transfer gripping device (9), gripping the lowest wall layer and transferred to a further conveyor (10), while the first unmortared wall layer (1) of the following wall panel held in the clamped position, serves a support for the wall panel to be lifted off.
