The use of compounds of the formula I IMAGE in which: R1 is C5- to C16-alkyl, R2 is C1- to C7-alkyl, C2- to C7-alkenyl or benzyl, R3 is H, CH3 or C2H5, R4 is identical or different R2 radicals, X(-) is halide, methosulphate or tosylate, n is 1 to 4, as bactericides against sulphate-reducing bacteria.
