Trans-4-alkyloxymethyl-1-(4'-cyanophenyl)cyclohexanes and trans-4-alkyloxymethyl-1-(4'-cyano-4'-biphenylyl)cyclohexanes, liquid-crystalline composition and use thereof in a recording device

摘要

Novel liquid-crystalline compounds having a positive dielectric anisotropy are described. These compounds are trans-4-alkyloxymethyl-1-(4'-cyanophenyl)cyclohexanes and trans-4-alkyloxymethyl-1-(4"-cyano-4'-biphenylyl)cyclohexanes of the general formula IMAGE in which R is an alkyl group of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and n is the number 1 or 2. These compounds are suitable as components in liquid-crystalline compositions having superior practical performance and increased stability. In addition, a process for the preparation of these compounds and their use in liquid-crystalline display elements are disclosed.
