Wide-beam search radar with accurate angle determination and method for accurately determining angles

In wide-beam search radars, accurate angle determination is achieved by using the angle measuring capabilities of a radar system, such as, for example, a monopulse radar. A target is determined by an external target device which establishes the position of the particular target. The search radar receives the directional information and aims its antenna in the specified direction and measures the angular displacement of any targets in the radar beam with respect to the antenna direction. The measured angular displacement is compared with a predetermined resolution in order to determine whether the particular target has been determined so that a tracking mode can begin.
