An elastically deformable layer of rubber or a rubber-like material, the surface exposed to mechanical wear of which layer is reinforced with embedded or applied bodies of wear-resistant material, which bodies are permanently bonded by the effect of pressure and heat to the at first unvulcanised material, having been coated beforehand with a rubber adhesive. Reinforcements adjacent to the other surface can also be vulcanised in the process.
