The machine is used for multiple punching of holes in sheet metal. It comprises a roller driven by overhead chains moving progressively over spring loaded punches. These are forced downwards to pierce the holes. Two parallel chains are fitted, running over chain wheels. One or more shafts fit transversely through their links, joining the chains together. Each shaft has an outer sleeve carrying end rollers contacting bearing surfaces to absorb the thrust. The punch operating roller fits centrally on the shaft, being wide enough to pass over the rows of punches. Ball bearings impart the downwards movement to the punches.
