The emergency release is fitted to to a vehicle safety belt to automatically disengage this in the event of an accident. It comprises a box (1) fixed to the vehicle bodywork and containing an electromagnet (9) and a deceloremeter (15). After a shock, the decelerometer sends a signal to an electronic control unit (10), a preset time delay being included. This unit then activates the electromagnet to pull a catch (3) towards it and release the buckle (6) of the belt. This attachment is normally spring loaded horizontally (8) and vertically (2) to prevent inadvertent release. Units to releast immediately during a fire or immersion in water can also be fitted.
