The cooking appliance is for use in the prep. of melted cheese. It has a heated plate (16) for the reception of the cheese. There is an adjustable radiant heater (6) which applies heat to the block of cheese. A spiked (11) segmental bracket (10) supports the block of cheese, and the hot-plate (16) is sited below to receive melted droplets. The hot-plate obviates the solidification of the cheese prior to serving. The hot-plate may be powered by electricity, be wired in parallel with the radiant heater (6), and may comprise a resistance element (19) within a casing (22). Alternatively the resistance may be built into a dielectric refractory block which is in turn embedded in cast iron. As a further alternative the hot-plate may be heated by combustable material and may have a temperature to control.
