The material for forming a container comprises two or more layers e.g. of carton or corrugated board and is intended to at least partially conceal the edges for an overlapping seam. The individual layers (1, 2) are offset against each other in stages in the direction vertical to the edges selected for the overlap connection. The individual layers are laid on top of one another at the seam so that the seam has a reduced bulge.
