The segment type, ground-guided cutting mechanism is for combined harvesters, espec. for harvesting rows of soya bean plants. The individual cutting segments are hinge-connected with the cutting mechanism trough and have a drive picked up from a common pick-up rail. Pick-up plates (10) with adjusting plates (11, 12) at both ends, are fixed to the pick-up rail (7) at the spacing of the vertically movable cutting segments (4). The pick-up rail (7) is reciprocated linearly over the complete cutting width by the blade drive (6) of the cutting mechanism (1). The pick-up plates (10) connect with the pick-up cross pieces (14, 15) fixed to the blade backs of the cutting segments (4).
