Appts. for treating effluent contg. cyanide(s) - with a percolator-degasser for rapid sepn. of hydrogen cyanide

An installation for the simultaneous detoxication, oxidn./redn. and neutralisation of effluents such as acid and alkali contg. metals and cyanides according to principal pattent comprises feeding a mixt. of effluent and reducing agents to the bottom of a percolator/degasser erected in a sealed area kept under reduced pressure. The mixt. is displaced upwardly in an irregular manner to obtain turbulence, cavities and max. degassing. The mixt. then falls to form a thin film at the bottom of the sealed area. The sepd. HCN is then destroyed by contact with an oxygen-contg. prod. whilst the liquid is removed for solid sepn. The appts. enables a faster and more effective removal of the HCN.
