Electric resistance welding of chain links - via machine where hydraulic circuit controls upsetting tools and applies electric welding current

The chain is fed stepwise through a welding station, in which two upsetting tools press the ends of a link together. Each tool is mounted on a lever; and the two levers are actuated by a single hydraulic cylinder (HC)(6). The vol. (Vm) of the metal upset has a constant ratio to the vol. (Vo) of oil displaced by the pressure in HC(6) at the moment of upsetting. Oil (Vo) is pref. fed into a second HC(10) with smaller dia. than HC(6); and vol. (Vm) pref. has a constant ratio to the vol. of oil controlled by HC(10). The pref. hydraulic circuit includes a pump and three distributors controlling the oil in the circuit. Constant upsetting conditions can be maintained in the mass prodn. of chains.
