The equipment secures a strip-type wick in position in relation to a grille separating the earth in a plant pot from a water reservoir and air below. The wick is held taut above the grille so as to bear against the earth, while its ends pass through slots in the grille and are immersed in the water. Each slot is of zigzag pattern, with the teeth protruding from one edge of the slot fit between those on the other. At least some of the teeth can have points fixed to them, protruding downwards and towards the slot.
