Hydraulic binder for road sub-grade construction - comprising slag, fly ash, and free lime

Slow setting hydraulic binder consists of fresh finely ground slag, power station fly ash of surface area 2200-4000 sq.cm./g. and free lime. The slag consists of at least 20% (40-50%) particles passing an 80 micron sieve and least 10% of particles above 200 microns. The binder is claimed as suitable for stabilisation and consolidation of ground for road construction and for large public works, when mixed with gravels and other fillers. The binder has good homogeneity and good reproducibility in mfr. It exhibits a sufficiently long setting time to allow placing without being overlong or irregular. Two by-products are utilised. High final strength is achieved without liability to fissuring as in prior art. Clay introduced may be flocculated by addn. of lime.
