The wood screw (1) is designed for use in butt type corner joints of chipboard panels etc (8,9), having a countersunk head (3) with a driving socket (4) and radial ribs (5) on the countersunk face. The shaft is of a uniform round section with a thread (T), terminating in a twisted point (2). A neck (6) may extend from the countersunk face to the shank, effecting the reduction in dia. by two conical zones. The socket (4) may have six bore lobes and may receive the stem (13) of a plastics masking stud (12).
