The tower crane comprises a base frame, top and bottom tower sections, a hydraulic climbing mechanism, and main and tailweight jibs slewing together on a ball-bearing at the top of the tower, together with hoist and slewing mechanisms. The bottom tower section is erected from the horizontal position for travelling by road into a vertical working one, in which it is supported by the jacks and radial struts of a supporting frame. The bottom tower section (1) or an integral part of it forms an erection base (15) lying horizontally on the ground for the erection of the crane by means of hoists (22) incorporated in the latter.
