Decorative candle, partic. a birthday candle, and a mfg. process and installation for the prodn. of such candles are described. The candle is in the form of a cylindrical stick with a length equal to many times the dia., e.g. 50 to 150 times and pref. about 100 times. The candle is made of hard wax of high m.pt., e.g. between 70 and 120 deg.C., pref. about 90-100 deg.C. The wax contains a very fine coaxial wick which burns with a bright, tiny flame giving off very little heat. To mfr. candles of this type, a number of wicks are pretensioned, spaced apart on a dipping frame. The frame complete with wicks is dipped in a bath of molten wax. Dipping is repeated as many times as necessary for sufficient enrobing thickness of wax. The wax sticks are cooled in water at about 16 deg.C, the sticks are dried and cut into candle lengths. The dipping frame is cleaned for re-use. Pref. a closed circuit conveyor carries the dipping frame through the complete mfg. cycle. Mechanised mfr. for high prodn. at inexpensive cost is obtd. The candle can be stuck directly into solid and semi-liq. prods. such as cakes, gateaux and puddings.
