The gear lever is articulated on the selector rod by a transverse axis and is connected to the operating rod via a knuckle joint. An extension to the selector rod is supported adjacent to the lever by a flexible support in the longitudinal axis. This support comprises an elastomer sleeve between two moving plates which slide on columns. Springs are used to ensure that the support is pushed upwards. Shoulders situated on a plate on the end of the selector rod extension operate in conjunction with stops to prevent movement of the lever to the reverse gear position. To engage reverse gear, the selector lever must be moved along its axis, provoking compression of the springs and the disengagement of the shoulder elements from their respective positions.
