The sanding block is used for manual sanding operations, comprising an approx. rectangular block with a disposable sheet of sand paper (1) mounted on a flat bottom face. It is contoured for gripping with either hand to reduce user fatigue, and the sanding face may be lined with rubber (7). It may be trapezoidal in cross-section with the lesser parallel side (3) on top, and may taper to an increased aft (4) thickness when viewed in long section. A chamfer (2B) on the leading top corner locates converging index finger grooves (15,16) clear of the base. A tapered round section thumb groove (11) in each long side (6) effects a tapering of face (3) towards the forward neck (9).
