The optical system for inclusion in a sighting device or laser telemeter includes a front stabilising mirror a reflector and a rear stabilising mirror. The front mirror oscillates about an axis of rotation and is associated with a suspension assembly which allows this oscillation but damps the movement. The rear mirror may oscillate about a perpendicular axis in similar circumstances with damping. The pivots on which the two mirrors are supported are elastic providing a returning couple. The damping mechanism consists of two plates projecting from the sides of the frame in which the mirror is mounted. These plates pass through the magnetic field of permanent magnets, producing damping by an eddy current effect.
