The reversible DC motor uses two armature windings with separate brushes to simplify electronic control circuits which supply the motor and switch the current to reverse the direction of rotation. The field supply is unchanged for both senses of rotation. The rotor is supported on its shaft by bearings in two end plates. Two independent armature windings are wound on the iron core. The windings are mfd. to give opposite senses of rotation. Each winding has its own commutator connected to the DC supply by carbon brushes. For convenience the commutators are placed on either side of the armature, adjacent to the end plates. A reversing switch connects the supply to either one winding or the other.
