5-Fluoro-2-methyl-1-/p-(methyl sulphinyl)-benzylidene-indene 3-acetic acid (sulindac salts of formula (I) are new. B is an organic or inorganic base which can be a "mono-" (n is 1) a "bi-" (n is 2) or a "poly"base (n greater than 2), and which is capable of forming salts with one or molecules of the acid to form neutral and basic salts. The new salts have the anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic activity of sulindac free acid, and may be made up into pharmaceutical formulations which are injectable and which are well tolerated. (I) may also be made up into conventional oral dosage forms, with the advantage of better tolerance than the free acid.
