摘要
The riveting process may be used in the mfr. of aeroplane bodies, utilising a pyrotechnical explosion to drive the rivet (1). The explosion generates a shock wave which is transformed into a force wave and applied to one end of the rivet. A domed head (1a) acts as a force wave guide, the wave being passed axially through the shaft (1b) to be reflected. The material at the tip is momentarily plasticised and expanded radially (1c) to effect the connection. Anvil (4) may reflect the force wave, both head (1a) and anvil (4) being of harder material than shaft (1b), and anvil (4) being of significantly greater mass than shaft (1b). Anvil (4) and head (1a) may have a Brinell hardness of 270 and hammer (3) may fit snugly onto head (1a).
