The pitched roofing system may be used on houses or bungalows and incorporates a sunken patio (11) or terrace. It is rectangular in plan with a constant eaves level (3A, 5A) and a rectangular ridge line (1, 2) at a constant distance from the eaves. The inclined faces (3, 5, 4, 6) fall away from the ridge (1, 2) in both directions, the internal faces (4, 6) terminating at internal eaves (9, 10) defining a sunken horizontal platform (11). The area may be open, may be covered by opaque or transparent claddings, or may be covered by surface water drain channels. Claddings may be demountable and solar energy collectors (12, 13) may be mounted on the internal inclined faces (4, 6).
