The fertiliser distributor comprises a wheeled chassis (2) hitched to a tractor, with a hopper (7) having a top opening through which the fertiliser is loaded into it. A spreader mechanism is mounted at the bottom of the hopper. A hoist (10) is permanently mounted on the distributor, lifting a sack (11) of fertiliser into position above the hopper, for emptying into it. The hoist can consist of a jib (12) extending above the hopper opening, and derricking under the action of a hydraulic ram (16). The ram is supplied from the tractor between a horizontal position, in which its head (12b) protrudes beyond the rear of the machine and an inclined position bringing the sack above the hopper opening.
