The map display has a housing (8) containing an electric lamp. The lamp is connected by a flexible lead to a plug which fits into a cigarette lighter socket on a vehicle dashboard. The housing has a slot (15) near the front for the insertion of a transparency, and a magnifying lens (16) on the front surface facing the driver. The housing is attached to a ball joint (20) on the end of an arm (21). The other end of this arm is attached to a suction pad (22) which may be fastened to a convenient point on the vehicle dashboard. The transparency shows a map of the area, along with grid reference lines dividing the map into areas.
