Installation for determining wt. per hecto-litre of cereals etc. - eliminating manual effort of filling and emptying hecto-litre measure

The installation comprises a structure contg. a weighing machine, a hopper and a hectolitre measure. The hopper is fixed to the structure in a position just below the weighing, machine which is supported by and fixed w.r.t. the structure. The measure is positioned below the hopper outlet and is suspended by connecting rods from a yoke resting on the weighing platform of the weighing machine. The yoke can be locked so that it does not move w.r.t. the structure. The measure is mounted on a pivot so that the contents can be discharged by overturning the measure. A retractable locking device prevents overturning of the measure until released. The sequence of operations comprises (a) locking yoke and measuring pivot; (b) filling hopper; (c) opening hopper discharge shutter and filling measure, doctoring off surplus to a level fill; (d) releasing yoke lock and noting indicated wt. on weighing machine; (e) releasing measure lock-overturning measure to discharge contents; and (f) resetting measure and yoke locking devices. A screw elevator can be used to take a sample of prod. into the hopper directly from the discharge flow of a delivery tanker. The installation is used for determining the wt. per hectolitre, (specific wt.) of granular type materials, esp. cereals. Negligible manual effort is now required to fill and empty the measure. Because fatigue is reduced, results are more reliable. The equipment is simple and inexpensive. Samples can be evaluated as delivery tankers are discharging.
