The percussive-action pneumatic tool comprises a frame (1) and a percussion mechanism (12) having a housing (11) longitudinally movable of the frame. A shock absorbing air cylinder (10) is coupled between the frame (1) and the housing (11) of the percussion mechanism, for advancing the housing relative to the frame under the pressure of the air within the cylinder which is controlled by a manually operable valve (19). Operation of the percussion mechanism is controlled by an air inlet valve (34), which in turn is controlled by the rod (16) of the shock absorber. The mechanism is set in operation only when the valve (19) is actuated by lever (28) to pressurise the cylinder (15).
