Machine for marking lines on games pitch - is guided by metal band and cuts grooves in ground for receiving sides of channel-section marker strip

The process is for marking the lines on a games pitch by using a U-section strip. The positions of the lines are first marked by a supple metal band (2), fixed by nails (9), which is slightly narrower than the strip. A machine is passed over the band and blades (30,31) cut two grooves in the ground (37,38) for the sides of the strip. The band is then pulled out and the strip inserted. The machine is mounted on rollers (24) and the blades are inclined at an angle of between 15 and 35 degrees. The band passes through two slides (22) in the base (13).
