Delay element for circular TWT waveguides - has structure containing several elements which have coaxial circular rings held in tubes and provides increased dispersion
The unit (10) is made of a monolithic symmetrical metal section (11) based on a circular shape which fits circular waveguide travelling wave tubes. Two conducting segments (1), diametrically disposed about the axis (03) and electron beam direction, protrude into the centre of the tube and present opposite concave surfaces to each other. The segments are of the same thickness as the main tube section. The segments are joined by a conductng buckle (2) which serves to suppress the TE11 mode. A circular ring (3) concentric with the segment faces and ais of the tube, is held centrally in position by transverse bars (4) which are at right angles to the line joining the segments. Wth several sections, their mounting in the waveguide can be arranged so that the ring support bars are alternately vertical and horizontal. Such a structure has a greater dspensons with the phase retardation double that commonly achieved. The wave dispersion produced is inversely proportional to the fundamental.
