The device uses a key operated switch inside the casing of a lead-acid type battery to prevent unauthorised useage of the battery. The electromechanical switch, when operated by the key, allows a piston to slide in a cylinder, either upward or downwards, thus opening or closing the electrical contacts in the connection to the positive terminal of the battery. Alternatively, the switch may be in the negative terminal connection. The mechanism may also be used in a switch mechanism fitted externally to the battery walls, by screwing it to the top of the battery casing in the vicinity of the terminal. In that case, the device is adaptable to existing accumulator batteries.
