In a filtration plant for cloudy water, in particular drinking water, having two individual filters (F1, F2) connected one after the other, these filters are connected to each other and to a water feed pipe (1), to a clean water outlet pipe (101) and to one cleaning water outlet each (6 and 14) with the aid of a limited number of preferably electromagnetically actuated shut-off valves (4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20) in such a manner that in a first washing phase only the upstream first filter (F1) is washed in countercurrent, in a second washing phase the first filter (F1) is washed in cocurrent and the downstream second filter (F2) in countercurrent and in a third washing phase both the first filter (F1) and also the second filter (F2) are washed in cocurrent.
