The beam is made up of an assembly of identical rectangular panels, which are releasably secured together end to end. Each panel carries, at its four corners, at least one connecting point parallel, to and laterally offset from, the plane of the panel. The connecting points at diametrically opposed corners are laterally offset to the same side of the panel. Each connecting point comprises two parallel flanges (4,5) extending perpendicularly from the panel edge. All the flanges are identical and define an intermediate gap, which is at least as wide as the flanges are thick.
