The appts. contains a test mass which is movable in relation to the accelerometer body. The test mass is electrically connected to the body by means of a very supple thin wire. Electrodes fixed onto the body form capacitors with the test mass. The position of the test mass is detected from the voltages produced on these electrodes. The test mass is positioned using electrostatic forces which are generated from the controlling voltages applied to the electrodes. The test mass is cruciform, and is formed by three identical rectangular mutually orthogonal plates whose centres coincide. The collected signals are fed to two differential amplifiers which supply a sync. detector.
