The ship bow door forms a disembarcation ramp, hinging at the bottom on a horizontal transverse axis between the shut positon and one where its free edge rests on an external support. The outer face (6) of the door is streamlined to form, with the hull, a continuous hydrodynamic profile when shut, and there is a recess (8) in its bottom part accommodating the part of the bow (9) on the hill when it is swung down into the open position. At the bottom edge there can be an edge or extension covering this part of the hull.
