Electromagnetic locking device for vehicle petrol filler cover - uses catch actuated by pivoted link carrying permanent magnet which repelled when electromagnet is energised

The device has two complementary locking elements to lock the filler cover in the closed position. An electromagnet has its armature coupled to one of the locking elements so as to displace the locking element and allow release of the filler cover when the electromagnet is energised. The locking element is pivoted near its end and the free end has a hook which fits over a projection from the inside of the filler cover. A pivoted link acts on the locking element when a permanent magnet, fitted to the end of the link and facing the electromagnet, is repelled by the magnetic flux established when the electromagnet is energised. Once released, the filler cover is opened by a spring, and the locking element is sprung back into place to catch the filler cover immediately the electromagnet operating button is released.
