The thermo-electric air to air heat pump has an array of longitudinal stacks, each made up from identical sections each of which is formed from half-sections having a thermo-electric element of one or other type of conductivity. A longitudinal tube which acts as a heat exchanger and is mfd. from a material having good electrical and thermal conductivity. Finned heat exchangers, transverse to the longitudinal axis, transfer heat to the air around the fins. The stack array is supplied with an electric current which is distributed among the axial tubes of the various stacks, and the current is directed such that each thermo-electric element pumps heat from a cold to a hot source. A cover is fitted to the end of each stack to define an air passage through the array of fins.
