Pharmaceutical for treating disease caused by herpes viruses - contains 2-C-beta-D-gluco-pyranosyl -1,3,6,7-tetr:oxy xanthone (mangiferin)

A pharmaceutical (I) for the treatment of diseases caused by Herpes viruses contains a 2-C-beta-D-glucopyranozyl -1,3,6,7-tetraoxyxanthone of formula (II) and at least one pharmaceutical filler. (I) is highly selective and effective against the viruses which cause herpes, has a high therapeutic effect, is non-toxic and is readily available. Suitable doses are 20-500 mg/kg once or twice daily.
