The device prevents the slow leakage of pressure from hydraulic valves, such as those used in vehicle suspension systems, under severe conditions. It has an elongate body with a longitudinal hole (3) housing the valve mechanism (4) with a plug (5) at its free end. The outer face of the plug (53) contains a circular slot (54) in which are two radial lugs (55,56) which are broken by the twisting action of a pin in extreme conditions. The plug (5) is released by this action and is forced closed by the valve mechanism (4), thus preventing a loss of pressure.
