摘要
Denitrification of water using ethanol as carbon source is characterised in that the ethanol is denatured with a phosphorus cpd. (I) before being introduced into the denitrification process. More specifically, the process involves biological treatment of water with bacteria which are capable of converting NO3 ions to N2 in the presence of ethanol. Unlike other denaturants (e.g. acetone, isobutanol or propylisobutanol), cpds. of type (I) do not inhibit bacterial growth; in addition, they supply P as an essential nutrient.
